A structured evaluation of a manuscript submitted to The Schola

Most high school writers receive feedback from teachers, advisors, or peers. The Veritaum Editorial Report offers something different: an independent scholarly assessment prepared by the same editorial board that evaluated the manuscript for publication in The Schola and written according to the same editorial standards.

The report addresses the manuscript’s academic merit, analytical rigor, and overall scholarly formation. These are not general writing observations. They are the criteria by which submitted work is measured against the expectations of humanities and social sciences scholarship: the originality and coherence of the argument, the extent to which the analysis engages sources critically rather than descriptively, and the degree of conceptual formation that distinguishes rigorous academic writing from strong student prose.

The report explains both the manuscript’s strengths and the principal issues affecting its suitability for publication, together with the reasoning behind those conclusions. It also offers insight into how an editorial board evaluates a manuscript and reaches a publication decision—an opportunity rarely available to student authors.

On Resubmission: Authors who undertake substantial revision in light of the report may submit a revised manuscript for renewed consideration. Although acceptance cannot be guaranteed, the report provides a structured basis for revision and resubmission.
