The Schola

Rigorous Scholarship for Students Ready for It

The Schola (ISSN 2508-7835) is an academic journal publishing original, independently reviewed scholarship exclusively by secondary school students in the humanities and social sciences—spanning history, literature, philosophy, politics, sociology, art history, cultural studies, and beyond, with contributors from across the world. Its editorial standard is not calibrated to age; it is calibrated to the quality of the work. Among student-facing scholarly resources, it occupies an unusual position: rigorous enough to model genuine independent inquiry, and pitched at exactly the intellectual level that advanced secondary students inhabit.

The most demanding students in a school's advanced programs are also its least well-served by available scholarly resources. Professional scholarship assumes a disciplinary formation they are still acquiring; most secondary research, however capable, goes unreviewed and unpublished, leaving no external standard against which to measure their own. The result is a gap that neither undergraduate databases nor general reference collections address: independently reviewed work produced by secondary students working at a genuinely advanced scholarly level.

The Library Partner Subscription gives schools structured institutional access to The Schola's archive—the three most recent volumes, updated on a rolling basis with each new issue. For librarians and program directors who take seriously the question of what belongs in their intellectual environment, it is a body of work that is neither too advanced to be legible nor too elementary to be genuinely challenging—scholarship that meets serious students where they are and shows them, concretely, what original thought requires.
